Formed in the mid-nineteenth century Chester Cathedral Nave Choir was England’s first cathedral voluntary choir. Rehearsals are on a Thursday evening and there is a rehearsal and service on most Sundays during term time. In addition to this are concert performances in the Cathedral and further afield. The choir has an annual tour or visit to another cathedral. A wide and varied repertoire is sung which encompasses music from plainsong and early 16th century polyphony to music by 21st century living composers. The choir is a major commitment which will requires members, particularly at busy times of the year, to give a significant proportion of their spare time to the choir. Membership to the choir is determined by audition and those interested should have some singing experience and be able to read music.
